A recent Office of Readings from Isaiah is very fitting for our times, it seems to explain a lot about why Our Lord allows such evil in the world; why He allows so many shootings of innocent people. He has removed His hedge of protection from around us because we as a country (a world) haven’t produced “choice grapes”, we haven’t sought His Divine Will in our lives but rather our own.
As I’ve once heard a mystic explain: God’s Divine Will is like an umbrella that protects us from the rain of
evil; but when we choose to do our human will rather than seeking to have God as Lord and center of our lives (the 1st Commandment), it is like poking holes in the umbrella, allowing the evil one and his ways to rain in.
This seems to be precisely what has been happening in our world. We have been being warned for many years now, but how many have been taking heed? God is calling us all to return to Him; but how many are heeding His call?
It reminds me of Fatima, when Mary warned that if people didn’t respond to her plea there would be a 2nd World War. And so there was.
We should expect what is happening to happen… Unless the masses turn to God wholeheartedly… not just with a ritual of religion but with a heart of total surrender of all that we are, including our mindsets, our opinions, our many attachments… bowing before His throne as our one and only Lord and All!
Many people will say, “I can’t believe this is happening.” But for me, when it happens I say, “I knew it was coming. We have been warned for years.” This does’t mean I don’t grieve and pray for situations. But I am expecting them, and still much more to come.
We have been hearing for years that God can no longer hold back His hand of justice, because the evil and sin is so rampant in the world; not the least of which is the grave scourge of abortion. Many rationalize as though it is a woman’s choice… but whose spirit is inspiring such a mindset? The human spirit or God’s? God has created us for a very special plan and purpose and the majority of humanity has chosen to go off and devise their own plan of life, and thus “yield wild grapes.”
Yes, there is still great hope for us all, and we are told to “be not afraid.” But the hope and peace come as we turn to God and seek His Divine Will, not our own.
And, may we not forget that Mary’s Immaculate Heart is the way to do this. “Fiat!… Be it done unto me oh Lord according to your word” (Lk 1:38).
“My beloved had a vineyard
on a very fertile hill.
2 He dug it and cleared it of stones,
and planted it with choice vines;
he built a watchtower in the midst of it,
and hewed out a wine vat in it;
and he looked for it to yield grapes,
but it yielded wild grapes.
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem
and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 What more was there to do for my vineyard,
that I have not done in it?
When I looked for it to yield grapes,
why did it yield wild grapes?
5 And now I will tell you
what I will do to my vineyard.
I will break down its wall,
and it shall be trampled down.
6 I will make it a waste;
it shall not be pruned or hoed,
and briers and thorns shall grow up;
I will also command the clouds
that they rain no rain upon it.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
